Three Georgia Bulldogs earn All-SEC freshman team recognition

The Georgia Bulldogs had three players named to the All-SEC Freshman Team, the most in the league.

Georgia redshirt freshman running back Chauncey Bowens made the team despite injuries that have hampered him the past few weeks. He went down with an injury in the SEC Championship game against Alabama, and it’s unclear if he will be 100 percent available for the College Football Playoff.

Bowens rushed 98 times this season for 516 yards and six touchdowns. He took over as Georgia’s top running back earlier this year from Nate Frazier, who was dealing with dropped balls.

Offensive lineman Dontrell Glover is a true freshman and former three-star recruit who was also named to the All-SEC Freshman Team. Glover made an immediate impact for Georgia this season. He appeared in all 13 games at Georgia, including several starts. He and five-star recruit Juan Gaston both spent a lot of early playing time at Georgia as true freshmen. However, Gaston was not named to the All-SEC Freshman Team.

Defensive lineman Elijah Griffin reached a five-star recruiting ranking and earned All-Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team recognition in his first season in Athens. Griffin has made 18 tackles and 1 sack this season and has shown his superb skills as a pass rusher.

Georgia redshirt freshman defensive back Ellis Robinson was the Bulldogs’ biggest snub on the All-Southeastern Conference freshman team. Robinson’s performance was elite and led the SEC with four interceptions.
