With the Cardinals trailing 55-54, Gordon calmly stepped to the free throw line and drained the free kick to give Plainfield a one-point lead with 8.8 seconds left in the game between the Garden State’s two state champions. The Cardinals sealed the deal on the final leg and advanced to the semifinals.
