The one advantage Liam Delap has over Joao Pedro in battle to be Chelsea’s top striker

Liam Delap has spoken to the Chelsea website about how he will win a starting spot ahead of the in-form Joao Pedro.

It’s been a difficult season for Liam Delap since signing for Chelsea. Injuries have disrupted his start at Stamford Bridge and now Joao Pedro is in superb form, preventing the Englishman from getting any more starts.

He did play against Hull City on Friday night, and after the game he was quoted on the club’s official website with some words about how he has improved upon a poor start and earned more playing time:

“I need to stay in shape and stay in rhythm,” Delap said.

“It’s the same for everyone else. The end of the season is going to be very challenging and we need everyone. So it’s very important that everyone contributes when needed and focuses.”

Liam Rosenior is sticking with JP for now – which is understandable given his form. But Delap has one advantage over the Brazilian – his existing relationship with the head coach:

“I know [Rosenior] from before [at Hull]. I think the message he brings to the team, we all agree with. You can tell from the results we got that we did a good job. So hopefully we can build on that and improve every game. “

There’s still a lot of improvement to be done, but Delap has to start somewhere and he’s looking forward to fighting.

Delap also spoke about Ronnie Orr’s team selection in general and was optimistic about the prospect of him playing more regularly.

It’s unclear who scored the second goal on Friday night, but full-time, Pedro Neto revealed what Jorel Hutto said to him.
