Jordan Walsh has truly emerged as an NBA rotation player this season, especially in the Boston Celtics’ 123-117 win over the New York Knicks last Tuesday night (December 2) at TD Garden. As a starter, the University of Arkansas alumnus only had eight points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block, but in the final frame of the game, when star teammate Jaylen Brown was double-teamed by the Knicks, he stepped up and helped Boston seal the victory.
Walsh spoke about his performance later in the fourth quarter, sharing how he was able to think on his feet even though he “thought we never really practiced getting double-teamed by (Brown)” in practice before that game. “We may have practiced it, probably every scene, but in that moment, it was more of a read.”

“Usually it’s JB, he’s in the middle… making plays in the whole scene,” the Celtics forward added. “A lot of it was me and Josh (Minot) tonight and I ended up finding him. He hit a three and I found him again. He didn’t make it, but we got a good ball possession out of it. I think it’s just the flow of the game, making the right reads and being aggressive.”

Walsh believes the slowdown in his game this season has been a major factor in his recent performance. “I think I’ve been calmer, more focused and definitely slowed down a lot since my rookie year,” he said. “I was a mess.”
“My rookie year, I was running all over the place. You know, I would burn out pretty quickly. So, I have to take it one day at a time, one possession at a time.”
