Save $49: Starting from March 12, the new Apple MacBook Air (M5, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) is available for the first time in 13-inch and 15-inch models. The 13-inch is $1,049.99 (originally $1,099) and the 15-inch is $1,249.99 (originally $1,299).
The new Apple M5 MacBook Air officially receives its first discount. It was officially unveiled yesterday (March 11) and has been launched in 13-inch and 15-inch models.
The M5 MacBook Air starts at $1,099 for the 13-inch model and $1,299 for the 15-inch model. Both base models come with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. As of March 12, each laptop is available for $49.01 off, bringing the starting price down to $1,049.99 or $1,249.99. Of course, this isn’t a huge discount. But considering that the basic model has Technically At $100 cheaper than its predecessor, it’s a steal.
So what’s new in these laptops? Honestly, not a lot. Obviously, the M5 chip is an improvement over the previous generation M4 chip. They now have the same blazingly fast processor as last fall’s 14-inch MacBook Pro. They also start with more base storage, configurable up to 4TB for the first time (up from 2TB), and add Apple’s N1 wireless chip to support WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
Otherwise, the new M5 MacBook Air is basically the same as the M4 MacBook Air—same 60Hz Liquid Retina display, 12MP Center Stage webcam, dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, and 18 hours of battery life. While that’s not necessarily a bad thing (we love the M4 Air), it certainly makes it an unnecessary upgrade unless you’re coming from a MacBook that’s several generations older. Still, there’s no denying how much value this laptop has, especially now that both sizes are $49 cheaper.
