Texas A&M offense explodes in Game 2 win over Tennessee Tech

No. 25 Texas A&M (2-0) has been strong in two games of its three-game opener home series against Tennessee Tech, officially kicking off the year with a 15-6 victory on Friday, led by a pair of homers from star junior outfielder Caden Sorrell and impressive performances from freshmen Nico Partida and Boston Keller.

Second-year head coach Michael Earley, who has 18 hits and three homers, is not only fighting for his job but also looking to prove that his leadership and ability to identify and bring in talent from the transfer portal will pay off after hitting coach Caleb Longley departs this offseason.

Game 2 was a continuation of Friday’s offensive onslaught, with Caden Sorrell’s big night leading up to Saturday’s home run extravaganza, as the junior hit his third home run of the season to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead in Game 1 before transfer backstop Wesley Jordan hit his first of two homers on the day.

Things quickly got out of hand, as Texas A&M scored nine points in the first inning and then scored 10 points in the next four innings to finish with 23 points, its most since the 2023 season. On the day, Texas A&M had 15 hits and five home runs.

Gavin Grahovac Jr. hit his first home run of the season in his return from injury and drove in three runs. Thanks to Robert Behrens for an even better stat: Texas A&M’s 38 runs in the first 14 innings of the season is on par with what the Aggies will score in the first six games of the 2025 regular season.

On the mound, first-year starter Weston Moss performed well, but similar to Shane Sdao’s start on Friday, the third-year right-hander lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs while striking out six. It will take time to adjust to his new role, but Moss’ strong arm and intense demeanor should pay off as the season progresses.
