Texas A&M HC Trisha Ford and Lessentine speak after Texas Tech loss

Texas A&M lost 3-2 to No. 1 Texas Tech on Saturday night in front of a record crowd at Davis Diamond Stadium. The result wasn’t what the Aggies had hoped for, but their performance provided plenty of reasons for optimism as things continue to take shape early in the season.

Losing is never ideal, and moral victory can only go so far, but head coach Theresa Ford came away encouraged by what she saw. The Aggies hit the ball hard, played solid defense and, most notably, held their own against one of the most explosive offenses in the country.

“I’m really proud of how we fought. I thought obviously we were a little nervous in the first inning. I thought Lesentine did a good job of settling in and executing her pitches, and I thought our arms did a really good job. I mean we hit the ball hard tonight and they just didn’t drop. You know, to me it’s the little things.”

Now at 4-1 with a roster full of new faces, a new defensive unit and replacing pitchers who handled 41 percent of the innings last season in All-American Emily Kennedy, the Aggies are performing as you’d expect. With SEC play just weeks away, the question becomes how much this team can grow as characters solidify and the roster finds its rhythm.
