Captain America Hilary Knight Taking her final game at the Olympics to overtime, the game was tied.
Knight deflected Laila Edwards’ shot past Ann-Renee Desbiens with 2:04 left in the game and the U.S. skated 6-on-5 with goaltender Aerin Frankel adding an extra attacker. It was her 15th goal in the Olympics and the most in team history.

Kristin O’Neill scored on a shorthanded goal less than a minute into the second period and Canada ended the U.S.’s undefeated streak at 352:17. Desbiens and Frankel kept making saves in a back-and-forth game that was more competitive than the first meeting in the qualifying round, when the U.S. beat Canada 5-0.
The United States defeated its opponents by a score of 31-1 and easily qualified for the tournament.

Since women’s hockey made its debut at the 1998 Nagano Games, the U.S. and Canadian teams have met in every Olympic final except one – in Turin in 2006, which Canada won.
Knight, 36, has announced that this will be her U.S.-record fifth and final Olympics, where she is expected to add a second gold medal to her three silver medals. The game came a day after Knight proposed to American speed skater Brittany Bowe.
The defending Olympic champion Canadian team lost 0-5 to the United States in the preliminaries and defeated the Swiss team 2-1 to advance to the final. The Canadian team has shown signs of aging in the game.
The loss to the United States was the most lopsided and the first time the Canadian women’s team has been shut out of an Olympic competition.
