From potential trades, to arbitration talks, to his appearance in the World Baseball Classic, all eyes are on Skubal.
The two-time All-Star and Triple Crown winner told USA Today earlier this week that his goal is to win the World Series in 2026.
“That’s where my focus is, trying to win a World Series for the city of Detroit,” Skubal said.
“There’s a different energy in training camp this year with the players we’ve brought in and the players we’ve added.”
Among the most notable names among their offseason additions are pitchers and current MLB saves leader Kenley Jansen and two-time All-Star Flamber Valdez, most recently with the Houston Astros.

With the addition of these new pieces, expectations are high, maybe even higher, for the American League Central Division title.
“With the additions we’ve made, the World Series is achievable. That’s all you can ask for, is to play on a team that has World Series aspirations year in and year out.”
After losing to the Seattle Mariners in the 15th inning of the deciding game five of the American League Division Series last fall, who knows what would have happened if the Tigers advanced.
Either way, Tigers fans have something to be excited about heading into the 2026 season, which includes the new one-two punch of Skubal and Valdez.
