So far, six teams have booked tickets for the next stage, namely defending champion India, co-host Sri Lanka, West Indies, England, South Africa and New Zealand. Two Super 8 spots are still up for grabs.

Currently, 8 of the 20 participating teams have been officially eliminated from the Super 8 competition, leaving only 6 teams theoretically left to compete for the last two spots.

Two of the four groups already know exactly who has advanced and who has been eliminated. Looking at Group C, the Windies and England have advanced to the Super 8s, while the remaining three teams in the group – Scotland (later replacing Bangladesh), debutants Italy and Nepal – have been eliminated.

In Group D, New Zealand became the latest team to advance to the Super 8 after defeating Canada in their final group match. New Zealand met South Africa in the next round of the group stage. Afghanistan, UAE and Canada have now withdrawn from the competition.

In the other two groups, one spot each is still up for grabs, with only two teams – Namibia in Group A and Oman in Group B – withdrawing from the competition.

In Group A, India has advanced to the next stage, while Pakistan, the United States and the Netherlands are vying for the remaining spots. The United States has played all four group matches and is second in the standings with four points, behind India. With a lower net run rate than the United States, Pakistan ranks third with 4 points. Pakistan will next face Namibia and a win will ensure their place in the Super Eights. The Netherlands will have a match against India where two points are still in contention.

In Group B, the Sri Lankan team entered the Super 8 with a huge victory over the Australian team, putting the Australian team on the verge of early elimination. After two consecutive defeats against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, Australia now needs a miracle to advance. Zimbabwe are leading the race for the remaining spots in the group as they have two games remaining. Australia’s campaign will be dealt a major blow as Zimbabwe progress to the Super Eights with victory over Ireland on Tuesday. Australia will advance only if they beat Oman by a huge margin and Zimbabwe lose two games – against Ireland and Sri Lanka. Even if a point is awarded due to rain, Zimbabwe will advance to the next round.
