Clovis police say a man was found dead in a parking lot early Thursday morning and a suspect is in custody.
An officer on routine patrol in the Ashland and Vera area discovered a body in a parking lot around 3:30 a.m.
Investigators said the body was that of a middle-aged man, but they have not yet been identified.
Officer Abby Padgett with the Clovis Police Department said a car at the scene may be related to the crime.
“While on scene, we did find a vehicle that appeared to be involved in this incident and it was taken back to our police station for further processing,” said Sgt. Padgett.
The site is surrounded by several stores, a Starbucks and the Fresno County Department of Social Services building.
Several employees who came to work told Action News they were in disbelief.
“It’s usually very quiet and peaceful here, there’s nothing going on here except for people working. Every once in a while we’ll have some homeless people walk through the parking lot, but nothing really serious,” Robert Sandoval said.
Padgett said this was an isolated incident and the second homicide investigation this year.
“We will do everything we can to make sure this incident is resolved. Hopefully bring some closure to the family and the public,” said Sgt. Padgett said.
No other details about the detained suspect have been released.
This is the second homicide in Clovis this year.
