A surprising contender with a very familiar name could cause huge problems for Vice President J.D. Vance’s bid for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination.

President Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., could become Republicans’ preferred choice for the White House within three years, The Independent reports.

President Trump praised Vance as his potential White House successor. The president said Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio could be very strong on the Republican ticket in 2028.

Vance is also widely leading in polls for the 2028 race.

But polls released last year showed Vance’s lead shrinking and a surprising candidate performing strongly: Trump Jr.

An August poll by McLaughlin & Associates showed Vance’s approval rating at 36 percent, with Trump Jr. lagging far behind at 16 percent.

But in an October survey, the gap narrowed, with Vance at 38% and Trump Jr. at 20%.

A November survey showed that Vance’s approval rating fell to 34%, while Trump Jr. soared to 24%.

Asked in May if he would seek the White House, Trump Jr. said: “I don’t know. Maybe one day, you know, the calling is there.”

Trump Jr.’s surge in the McLaughlin poll has fueled speculation that if he wins the presidency, he will resign in favor of his father, who will then take over the White House for a third term.

No. 22ND An amendment to the U.S. Constitution prohibits anyone from being elected president for more than two terms. President Trump is currently in his second term in the White House.
