Stellar Blade launches on PC on Wednesday, more than a year after the action game launched on PS5, and it appears to be a huge hit for Sony and developer Shift Up. The game has topped the global bestseller list on Steam. “Stellar Blade” has also become the largest single-player PC game ever launched by Sony, with the number of simultaneous online players on the platform reaching a peak of more than 183,000.
Star Blade is a huge hit on Steam
The action game is currently No. 1 on Steam’s best-sellers list, ahead of the recently released Dune: Awakening and Elden Ring Nightreign. Shift Up hasn’t released sales figures yet, but the Korean studio thanked fans in a post on Thursday.
On Steam, Stellar Blade attracted a rapidly expanding player base just one day after its release. As of this writing, there are over 183,000 concurrent users playing the game on the platform, and that number is growing. According to SteamDB, it is currently one of the most played games on Steam.
Published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), Stellar Blade has over 183,000 peak concurrent players on Steam, making it Sony’s largest single-player PC game, beating out games like Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and God of War.
Overall, this is Sony’s second most successful game on Steam, behind the online game Helldivers 2, which has over 450,000 concurrent players.
Star Blade launched on PS5 on April 26, 2024 and has sold over 2 million copies on the platform. On PC, the game comes with additional content and platform-specific features such as ultrawide monitor support, unlocked frame rates, and more. All new content released with the PC version is also available on the PS5 version of the game via free updates.
Meanwhile, Shift Up has confirmed plans for a Stellar Blade sequel. The studio said in an investor presentation last month that the sequel won’t be released until 2027.
Stellar Blade is an action-based game that tells the story of Eve, a super-soldier sent on a mission to a monster-infested Earth. Players must master a gorgeous combat system and battle grotesque and deadly creatures in compelling environments. In our review of the game, we praised Stellar Blade’s “fun combat and smooth presentation” but said it was “constantly held back by almost every other factor.”
