The waters at the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback position are murky a week into the new league year, and a free agent who was previously considered a great fit just got an insane contract extension.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport recently predicted that impending free agent Malik Willis would seek a ridiculous contract worth an average of $30-35 million per year, which, if accurate, would likely put him outside the Steelers’ 2026 price range.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler tried to dispute the huge contract amount, instead predicting Willis could get a contract worth $20-25 million per year.
Both contract projections are likely too high for the Steelers’ expectations this offseason, especially with the possibility of Aaron Rodgers returning for another season in 2026.
Free agency isn’t the only way the Steelers can address this issue, however, as their interest in quarterbacks at the NFL Scouting Combine has given fans a look at prospects worth keeping an eye on in this April’s draft.
