Aaron Rodgers’ time with the Pittsburgh Steelers may be over, but his teammates are hoping there’s still a chance he can return. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Steelers players spoke highly of Rodgers during exit interviews and want the veteran to return to the team for another year in 2026.
Schefter said the 42-year-old Rodgers has received praise from nearly every player, with “most, if not all,” expressing hope that Rodgers can return for another season.
Nearly every Steelers player praised Rodgers in exit interviews, and most, if not all, expect the veteran quarterback to return in 2026. His support among players is universal, and those around the organization point out how well-liked and respected Rodgers is there.
In his first year with the Steelers, Rodgers threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions, leading the team to a 10-7 record. After the Steelers lost 30-6 to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round, Rodgers did not commit to playing next season and said he wanted to take his time before making a decision.

However, if Rodgers decides to play, the Steelers may not be the option for the veteran. Former Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who unexpectedly resigned after the team lost its wild card, reportedly played a major role in Rodgers’ arrival last offseason. With Tomlin gone, Rodgers has the option of playing for another club in 2026. Rodgers was upset that there were questions about Tomlin’s job security after the team lost the wild card. The fact that Tomlin felt the need to leave might have been the final straw for the veteran quarterback.
Despite Rodgers’ age, he still has some ability in his arm. While he’s no longer playing near his peak, he can still provide a solid touchdown-to-interception ratio and lead his team to wins.
But the market for a 42-year-old quarterback might not be as strong, especially if Rodgers limits his options to possible contenders. The Steelers can still meet that standard next season. The Minnesota Vikings could also be an interesting option after JJ McCarthy’s lackluster first season as starter. The Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons could be interesting options if they decide to move on from their current starters.

Of the options, Rodgers is the most familiar with the Steelers. But Tomlin’s exit could be a deciding factor in Rodgers’ decision, which could lead to the veteran joining another team in an attempt to win another championship.
