Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, the narrative-driven action role-playing game announced at the 2025 Game Awards last week, will be released before 2030, game director Casey Hudson has confirmed. Following the game’s reveal, Hudson, who directed the original “Knights of the Old Republic” (KOTOR) and the “Mass Effect” trilogy, said that the new “Star Wars” game was in the early stages of development, later clarifying that it would be released before 2030.
Publisher Lucasfilm Games and developer Arcanaut Studios did not confirm a release date for Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic when they showed off the game’s first trailer at the 2025 Game Awards. The Star Wars website confirms that the game is in the early stages of development and creation. Hudson also said at X that the game is in the early stages of development, sparking speculation that the game won’t be released before 2030.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier also weighed in on the game’s release window. “This is exciting news for a lot of people…but Lucasfilm said the studio was launched this year, which means 2030 is a optimistic Guess,” he said on Blueskly.
The biggest surprise of last night was Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, directed by Kathy Hudson, who helmed Kotor (and Anthem). This is exciting news for many… but Lucasfilm says the studio was launched this year, meaning 2030 is an “optimistic” guess. Maybe it will be a PlayStation 7 game

However, Hudson later clarified that the newly formed Arcanaut Studios team plans to launch the game before 2030.
“Don’t worry about the ‘before 2030’ rumors. The game will be released before then. I’m not getting any younger,” he posted on X.
