Brian Landis, who has more than two decades of high school and college experience, has been named the new football coach at St. Xavier High School.
Landis began his coaching career in 2001 at his alma mater, Georgetown College, and served as the head coach at Alpharetta (Ga.) High School last season. Landis went 2-8 in his only season there.

Landis succeeds Kevin Wallace, who retired in December after 40 seasons as Kentucky’s head coach. Wallace compiled a 72-28 record in eight seasons at St. X and won the Class 6A state championship in 2021.
The Tigers went 10-4 last season, losing to rival Trinity in the Class 6A state semifinals.
Landis attended Lakota High School near Cincinnati and played football at Georgetown, where he helped the Tigers win the NAIA national championship as a senior free safety in 2000. In 2004, he played for the Lexington Knights football team.

Landis served as an assistant coach at Georgetown University (2001, 2004-14), Eastern Kentucky University (2015) and the University of Kentucky (2016) before serving as the first head coach at Frederick Douglass High School from 2017-19.
He compiled a 35-5 record at Frederick Douglass and led the Mustangs to the 2019 Class 5A state finals before falling 14-7 to Covington Catholic.
Landis returned to the collegiate ranks in 2020, serving as an assistant coach at Georgia State for four seasons (2020-23) and one season at West Georgia (2024) before serving as an assistant coach in Alpharetta.
His experience at the collegiate level was primarily on defense, coaching linebackers and defensive backs and serving as defensive coordinator at the University of West Georgia.
