Spurs star Wembanyama leaves game versus Knicks with apparent left leg injury

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — San Antonio center Victor Wembanyama left the game in the fourth quarter of Wednesday night’s rematch against the New York Knicks with an apparent injury to his left leg.

There is no word yet on the extent of Wembanyama’s injuries.

With 10:32 left in the game, Wembanyama leapt to grab an offensive rebound from the Knicks, but he lost possession of the ball with 10:32 left in the game. Replays showed there was no physical contact, but Wembanyama’s left foot slipped forward and his knee appeared to be hyperextended.

Wembunyama remained on the court as New York attacked. Spurs forward Kelly Olynyk intentionally fouled so the Spurs could check on Wembanyama. Spurs guards Stephen Castle and De’Aaron Fox helped Wembanya to his feet before he limped alone to the locker room.

The 7-foot-4 center vigorously waved his hands to the fans as he walked through the tunnel.

San Antonio coaches, team doctors and general manager Brian Wright followed Wembanya to the locker room.

This is the first meeting between the Spurs and the Knicks since New York defeated the San Antonio Spurs 124-113 in the NBA Cup final on December 16.
