Electronic Arts said that Split Fiction on Nintendo Switch 2 will allow players on the original Switch to join through GameShare. The GameShare feature launched with the Switch 2, allowing two players with a Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch to share a single copy of a compatible game over a local wireless connection. Nintendo Switch 2 owners will be able to share Hazelight’s acclaimed co-op game with other users on Switch via GameShare. “Split Fiction” will be launched on Nintendo’s new console as the launch game on June 5th.
Split novels on Switch 2 and Switch
In a blog post detailing Split Fiction’s Nintendo Switch 2 features, EA confirmed that Switch owners will be able to receive and play the game natively alongside Switch 2 owners.
“GameShare will give Nintendo Switch 2 owners the ability to invite other players to play the game via a local wireless connection using just one copy of the game. This ‘other player’ can be not only a Nintendo Switch 2 owner, but also a Nintendo Switch owner,” the blog post reads.
Earlier, when EA announced that Split Fiction would be coming to the Switch successor, it said that the co-op game could only be shared with other players on Nintendo Switch 2.
It’s worth noting that Nintendo also says that only games that are compatible with Switch 1 can be shared from Switch 2 to the hybrid console. “Only Nintendo Switch 2 systems can share games, but any Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch can receive games. Nintendo Switch systems can only receive games that are compatible with Nintendo Switch,” reads a page on Nintendo’s website explaining the GameShare feature.
However, EA’s confirmation that Split Fiction will be playable on Switch via GameShare contradicts Nintendo’s description, as the game is not native to the Nintendo Switch. The game has been announced for Switch 2, but was not released on the original Switch.
Split Fiction is also confirmed to support Friends’ Pass and Cross Play on Nintendo Switch 2. Friend’s Pass is a feature of Hazelight Studios’ co-op games that allows two players to play online together, with only one player needing to own a copy. With cross-platform play, players will be able to experience the game across PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X and Nintendo Switch 2 with the help of an EA account.
Switch 2 pre-orders for Split Fiction will begin on April 24, with the game priced at $49.99. It will be released on Switch 2 as a launch day game on June 5th. Split Fiction releases March 6 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X
