A high-speed crash at a busy Fresno intersection last week sent a muscle car flying into the air and leaving a trail of destruction that stretched more than 500 feet.
Investigators say the driver of a Dodge Charger Hellcat was speeding on Wednesday, February 18, at Shaw and Maroa avenues.
As the vehicle drove across the road near the intersection, it became airborne and then fell violently, crashing through a series of objects along the corridor.
The impact snapped off a street sign, tore up a bus stop (including benches), twisted a commercial marquee, shattered a storefront window, hit a parked vehicle, drove into a brick wall, and came to rest nearly a block away.
Authorities estimated the path of damage was more than 500 feet.
Although the vehicle was severely damaged and the vehicle was declared a total loss, the driver walked away “unharmed,” according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Cell Tech boss, who asked not to be named, described the chaotic moments when the incident occurred while working inside.
“I was working on the iPhone. My wife was right next to me,” the business owner told The Bee. “We pretty much just heard a huge explosion. When I looked up, you could see debris flying. That’s when I told my wife, ‘Take the kids, get back in the room. Let me see what’s going on outside.'”
He said when he ran outside, the damage was immediately visible.
“The U.S. Postal Service mailbox on the right side was hit,” he said. “The trash cans were gone. The benches and little awnings at the bus stop were ripped off. Our whole business sign was completely twisted. I looked down the block and thought, ‘What is that?’ He had hit it so far that he was almost at the end of the block — basically at the next stoplight.”
The force of the collision sent the bus bench flying into the disabled parking area and a metal pole struck the shop window. Some of the debris also hit the store owner’s own vehicle parked outside.
“When I ran over there, the kid came out. He had cuts all over his body, but he was fine. He came out alive,” the store owner said.
The CHP is still investigating the collision, but officials confirmed speed, not alcohol or drugs, was the determining factor in the violent incident that caused damage to the hallway.
There was another incident at the intersection on Monday when a car hit a car in front of it, leaving debris in the intersection. One victim complained of pain.
Debris remains after a car went airborne at Shaw and Maroa avenues in Fresno, California, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Cell Tech’s windows were shattered by debris after a vehicle became airborne.
