Spanish fashion magnate’s son arrested on suspicion of involvement in his death

MADRID (AP) — Police in northeastern Spain arrested the son of Isak Andic, the billionaire founder of Spanish fashion brand Mango, on Tuesday for his alleged role in his death.

In December 2024, 71-year-old Andic was hiking with his son in the mountains near Barcelona and fell to his death from a cliff about 150 meters (about 500 feet) high.

Son Jonathan Andic, 45, was the only witness. Police launched an investigation but it was closed weeks later. It reopened in March 2025 and in October police confirmed the death was being investigated as a possible homicide.

Catalonia regional police spokesman Mossos d’Esquadra said Jonathan Andic was brought to court in the eastern Spanish city of Martorell, where the case is under investigation. The spokesman spoke on condition of anonymity in accordance with department policy.

He added that the case was subject to a confidentiality order.

Jonathan Andich was the eldest of Isaac Andich’s three children and one of his father’s heirs. He is deputy chairman of the board of directors of Mango, one of Spain’s largest retailers.

Isak Andic’s family moved from Türkiye to Spain when he was young. In 1984, he opened Mango’s first store in Barcelona and over the following decades helped Mango grow into one of Europe’s leading fast fashion manufacturers.

Mango has 2,900 stores in 120 markets worldwide. The fashion group’s revenue in 2025 hit a record high of nearly 3.8 billion euros ($4.4 billion), an increase of 11% from the previous year.
