South Shore Plaza restaurant, a ‘key tenant,’ closes. What we know

An “anchor tenant” at South Bank Plaza has closed after eight years.

The Braintree location of Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse opened in October 2017. At the time, it was the local chain’s ninth restaurant. There is a sign on the door stating that the lease is ending.

“Our lease in Braintree has ended,” read the note signed by “the Davio family.” “Thank you for a wonderful ten years. God bless you all.”

No other information was immediately available. The Braintree page on Davio’s website is no longer available, but it is still listed as an “anchor tenant” on the South Shore Plaza website along with Apple, Target and Sephora.

Workers were removing equipment and boxes from the restaurant Monday afternoon.

The local chain was born in 1985 when Steve DiFillippo purchased an existing restaurant called Davio’s on Newbury Street in Boston.

The 300-seat Braintree restaurant takes over the former Joe’s American Bar and Grill restaurant.

Davio’s currently has eight locations, six in Massachusetts and two in Pennsylvania and Virginia. Massachusetts offices are located in Back Bay, Seaport, Logan Airport, Foxboro, Chestnut Hill and Linfield.
