South Carolina, Dawn Staley land Jerzy Robinson, No. 5 2026 recruit, over UConn, LSU

COLUMBIA — Jerzy Robinson, the No. 5 recruit in the Class of 2026, committed to the South Carolina women’s basketball team on Dec. 23.

She chose the Gamecocks over LSU and UConn, the defending national champions who beat coach Dawn Staley twice last season. She is 6 feet tall and plays for Sierra Canyon High School in California. She revealed the news live on ESPN2.

Robinson took an official visit in late October and participated in South Carolina’s exhibition game on October 24. She was spotted sitting behind the Gamecocks’ bench during the game.

Robinson then attended a football game on Oct. 25 with Staley, current players and legendary Gamecocks A’ja Wilson, who just became the WNBA’s first four-time MVP.

This is South Carolina’s third commitment in the 2026 cycle and fourth addition to the roster this season, as Alicia Tournebize, a 6-foot-4 basketball player from France, announced on Dec. 22 that she would enroll at South Carolina.

Kelsi Andrews, a 6-4 center and the No. 18 pick, signed on Oct. 7; Kaeli Wynn, a 6-2 forward and the No. 17 pick, signed on Nov. 10. They were all signed early on.

Robinson is the highest-ranked Staley recruit since Joyce Edwards, the third-ranked recruit in the 2023 class.

She took an official visit to LSU on the weekend of October 11th.

Wayne went on an official visit in early September and returned to Colombia on October 24. She was watching an exhibition game with Robinson.

Staley will lose Tania Latson, Raven Johnson, Mariam Dauda and Madina Okot next season, but Staley did say they will push for more eligibility for Okot, who played in Kenya before coming to the United States.

Ashlyn Watkins announced in July that she plans to return for the 2026-27 season as a senior, while Chloe Kitts has the option to return or enter the WNBA draft after missing this year’s WNBA draft with a torn ACL.
