government. Andy Beshear (D-Kentucky) mocked the senator. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) A fake X post accuses the governor of being out of town during a massive winter storm that brought dangerous amounts of snow and ice to many parts of the U.S.
Cruz posted a “thinking” emoji and retweeted a post from the Kentucky Freedom Alliance that showed Beshear and his wife posing in front of a church in Europe.
The account, representatives followed suit. Thomas Massey (Republican of Kentucky) posted, “A few years ago, the liberal media went crazy when Ted Cruz didn’t show up for the mass freeze in Texas. Well, Kentucky has declared a state of emergency and @AndyBeshearKY is touring Europe. The media won’t say a word, though.”
Beshear responded: “Sorry for missing this earlier, @tedcruz. Been busy leading the state’s emergency response all day. From Kentucky.”
Washington Post reporter Aaron Black added some additional backgroundwrote: “This photo of Beshear in Europe has been out for a full week. He was in Kentucky for a briefing today.”
Beshear was in Europe last week “joining a Kentucky delegation to the World Economic Forum and meeting with company leaders from Finland, Sweden and Switzerland,” WKYT reported.
Cruz faced backlash after fleeing to sunny Cancun in 2021 after a brutal winter storm left millions of his constituents “plunged below freezing without power or water,” The Hill reported.
The contrite senator returned to Texas within 24 hours of being spotted traveling. Cruz eventually apologized, saying: “It was obviously a mistake and, in hindsight, I would not have done it.”
This week, as Texas once again braced for severe weather, a Texas political strategist posted, “Earlier today, January 20, 2026, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was spotted on a plane bound for Laguna Beach as Texas braced for a rare ice threat and arctic cold front.”
Regarding the trip to California, a spokesperson for Cruz told KXAN that the work trip was “arranged weeks in advance.”
“He will return to Texas before the storm hits,” the spokesperson continued.
Cruz posted that he did, in fact, return to Texas the day before the storm hit.
This isn’t the first time Cruz has been called out for retweeting false posts. In 2023, Cruz shared a photo of what looked like a shark swimming on a flooded freeway in Los Angeles.
