Sony is shutting down its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, which rewards members for playing games and completing activities on its platform. The company said the program is no longer accepting new members but will end on November 2, 2026. Existing PlayStation Star members will be able to earn digital collectibles and points until July 23, 2025, after which time all program benefits and rewards will cease.
The PlayStation Stars program is coming to an end
PlayStation Stars launches in select regions in 2022 and offers digital collectibles to players on the platform. Sony said it will evaluate the program’s findings as the current version is shut down.
“Since launching the program, we’ve learned a lot from evaluating the types of events that players are most interested in, and as a company we’re always evolving with our players and industry trends,” the company said in a PlayStation Blog post on Wednesday.
“As a result of this review, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will phase out the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from the program and are looking for ways to build on these lessons learned.”
When will PlayStation Stars end?
While the loyalty program will not accept any new members, existing members will be able to earn digital collectibles, points and upgrade their status until July 23, 2025, after which all new PlayStation Stars activities, rewards or benefits will cease.
Existing members can continue to redeem points as long as they expire before November 2, 2026, when the program will end entirely. However, Sony said that if existing PlayStation Stars members cancel their membership, they will not be able to rejoin the program and will lose all earned points. However, acquired digital collectibles will still be accessible.
Sony said: “We would like to thank all players for their support of PlayStation Stars since its launch in 2022. As we explore new ways to grow our future loyalty program efforts, we will continue to celebrate all players through the various community events we have planned.”
PlayStation Stars is scheduled to launch in 2022 and requires a valid PSN account to join for free. The loyalty program rewards members for completing different activities and activities on the PlayStation platform (such as playing games or winning specific trophies) and is accessible through the PlayStation app on iOS and Android.
Rewards include digital collectibles and loyalty points that can be redeemed in the catalog, which may include PSN Wallet funds, digital collectibles and select PlayStation Store products.
Sony has launched several community programs for PlayStation users in the past. Earlier this year, the company announced a unified beta testing program for PS5 and PC games, as well as other PlayStation experiences.
