The PlayStation 5 Pro seems to be getting closer to its official launch. Following news that the PS5 Pro will debut in September, Sony has now confirmed that it will hold a PlayStation 5 “tech demo” on September 10th. The presentation will begin on Tuesday at 8:00 AM PT (or 8:30 PM IST) and will focus on “PS5 and gaming technology innovations.” While Sony hasn’t explicitly confirmed whether the show will showcase the PlayStation 5 Pro, it’s likely that the company will finally reveal the existence of the upcoming console, which has been an open secret in the industry for some time.

Crucially, the tech demo will be hosted by PS5 (and PS4) lead architect Mark Cerny. Four years ago, Cerny revealed and detailed the technical capabilities and design decisions of the PS5 console ahead of its release.

Sony has confirmed that the livestream will be nine minutes long and will be broadcast in English on the PlayStation YouTube channel. PlayStation’s parent company provided no other details about the tech demo. You can watch the presentation below:

It’s also worth noting that Sony seemed to tease the PS5 Pro ahead of the announcement. In a post celebrating PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, the company posted an image with a live performance of PlayStation products in the background. Among the familiar silhouettes of Sony’s consoles and PlayStation accessories over the years, you might spot some sort of PS5-like design that doesn’t officially exist yet – when viewed from the side, the PS5 has three stripes on its side panel.

The design matches the leaked PS5 Pro design. Last month, a reliable leaker claimed that the PS5 Pro would be officially released in the first half of September. In addition to the release schedule, the leaker also released a sketch of an alleged PS5 Pro, which will have a similar design to the PS5 but with three stripes on the side panel.

The PS5 Pro has been an open secret in the gaming industry for some time now, with rumors and reports revealing expected hardware upgrades that the console could bring. With PS5 sales declining, Sony is expected to launch a “Pro” version of the current-generation console before the 2024 holiday season. Sony said in its most recent March-June quarterly earnings report that it sold 2.4 million PS5 units, well below analysts’ expectations of 3 million units.
