WARNING: This story contains details of a violent crime.

The man accused of beating his elderly mother to death in Leamington, Ont., earlier this year has pleaded guilty.

Kevin Goodings, 61, appeared in Superior Court in Windsor, Ont., on Thursday and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 83-year-old Anita Goodings.

The crime occurred on March 11 on the terrace of Anita Goodings’ ground-floor apartment.

Surveillance video played in court showed Goodings attacking his mother. The video shows him pushing her to the ground, stepping on her head and kicking her motionless body.

The woman’s body was covered under a blanket.

The court heard Kevin Goodings fled the apartment with a jacket and two backpacks.

He was later seen at Via train station in Windsor, trying to take a taxi to Toronto.

He was eventually arrested on March 15 at the Downtown Mission shelter in Windsor.

Excerpts from surveillance video were shown in court. Anita Goodings’ family members were in attendance, some using excuses to avoid seeing the evidence.

The High Court will hear the joint judgment on January 14.
