The trade deadline is a tough day for everyone in the NBA. It’s a day where teams must make the right decision that they believe is best for their future. The Philadelphia 76ers traded Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder at the deadline in exchange for a first-round pick and three second-round picks as his career continues to move forward.
McCain is a beloved player in the Philadelphia locker room, and his teammates have been public about their affection and love for the young guard since the trade. Even Kyle Lowry, who watches Prime’s NBA coverage on Amazon, expressed his thoughts on McCain and wished him good luck:
This is a difficult situation. Especially since Jared is one of the sweetest guys out there. The trade deadline sucks for a guy like him because he’s an asset and we gave him four draft picks. I basically told him, like, ‘Listen, a team is willing to give up that much for you. It means you are valuable. We discussed this on the plane yesterday. Just him. He is always smiling. He was always joking. When we’re not watching, he’s TikToking and posting. He’s a great kid, so we’re dealing with that internally. We know the basketball business. So, personally, I told him, ‘No matter what, I’m the big brother. No matter what team you’re on, what uniform you’re wearing, what city you’re in, give me a call. “I think we have a very close group and we’ll still be in touch with him and I know he’s looking forward to seeing us when they come into town.
Lowry and the 76ers will welcome McCain and the Thunder on March 23 at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
