Should Packers re-sign Kingsley Enagbare?

Kingsley Nnagbal provided value to the Green Bay Packers as a rotational edge defender during his four years with the Green Bay Packers, and now his rookie contract expires and he will become a free agent.

Should the Packers keep Enagbare until 2026 and beyond? Based on his performance so far in Green Bay, here are the numbers on what he brings to the table:

Advantages

There’s only one area where Enagbal consistently performs at a high level compared to other players in the NFL, and that’s his snap performance in the run game.

Since entering the league in 2022, Enagbal ranks in the 74th percentile of qualified edge defenders in snaps per run. Over the past three years, his ranking has improved to the 87th percentile, and he actually finished fourth in EDGE last season.

Nnagbal made some big plays in the Packers running game and was generally solid in that stretch. Since 2022, he also has an above-average interception rate (interceptions that result in a failed offense) and a turnover rate (50th percentile).

weakness

However, he’s not a special pass rusher by any means, ranking just in the 27th percentile in sacks per pass rush since 2022.

Even against a true passing set-up (which eliminates factors like screens, play action, rollouts or quick throws), Enagbal didn’t make much of an impact. These situations are supposed to favor defenders, but Enagbare ranks only 24th in PFF’s pass rush efficiency metric (PRP) relative to true pass-rush setups.

Enagbal shouldn’t tire, either, as he ranks in the 23rd percentile in pass rush attempts per game compared to his peers at the position.

He’s also been one of the most punished edge defenders in the league over the years, ranking in the 24th percentile in free throw attempts per dunk since he entered the league.

growth areas

During his time in Green Bay, Nnagbal has developed into one of the best run defenders in the league from edge to bottom.

His tackle rate has always been his strength, but it’s even improved over the past few years, with Nnagbal ranking around the 93rd percentile in the league since 2024 and around the 67th percentile in 2022 and 2023 combined.

But as time went on, Nnagbal’s tackles became more impactful than just knocking down the ball carrier. His blocking rate last season was a career-high 88th percentile.

Enagbare’s average tackle depth jumps from the 28th percentile in 2023-2024 to the 60th percentile in 2025.

area of return

The former fifth-round pick has gradually expanded his role as a pass rusher during his time in Green Bay, ranking in the 20th percentile in pass rush snaps in 2022 and 2023 and climbing to the 29th percentile in the past two years.

But as he played more games, Nnagbal’s rushing ability as a pass rusher declined dramatically. He was a slightly below-average rushing average his first two years, but since then he’s fallen into the bottom third of the league.

Enagbal’s ranking in quarterback hurries per snap from 2022-2023 drops from 46th percentile to 29th percentile from 2024-2025. His rush ranking among true pass-rush combinations has dropped year over year, from 57th to 26th, and finally to 13th in 2025.

The story is similar with QB hits. Enagbare rose to 77th percentile in the previous two years, but has dropped to 34th percentile since 2024. Among true passing combinations, his average ranking dropped from 65th percentile in 2022-2023 to 16th since then.

Likewise, his ranking in PFF’s PRP metric dropped from 40th to 26th between his first two seasons and his last two. His pass-rush win rate ranking also dropped from 50th to 28th during that time.

Comprehensive

Enagbare is an example of a late-round pick well spent. A former fifth-rounder, he’s made valuable contributions to the Packers defense, but statistics suggest it might be time to move on and let another team pay him.

He’s never been an average pass rusher compared to peers at his position and is heading in the wrong direction. The opposite is true for his run defense, but is it worth the cost?

Nnagbare’s extension is affordable, but every dollar matters to Green Bay right now, and his presence could mean it’s harder for younger players with more upside to get in and develop.
