Adelaide Strikers captain Matt Short’s efforts with bat and ball were in vain as his team suffered a seven-game losing streak to the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash.
Short finished the Strikers’ pick of the bowlers with 2-13 at the Gabba, helping the Heat restrict the score to 179-9 in 20 overs.

Max Bryant was the top scorer for the Heat, scoring 63 runs with four sixes and four fours in 32 balls.
Matthew Renshaw struck 33 off 22 balls while Luke Wood and Hassan Ali took 2-43 and 2-36 respectively.
Short then led the Strikers’ counterattack with 63 off 39 balls, including five fours and two sixes.
When Short lost to Xavier Bartlett – who took 3-26 – the strikers needed 24 off 16 balls with four wickets in hand, but their innings lost steam.
Jerrssis Wadia struck 35 off 16 balls but Thomas Barkin (2-30) kept his cool at the death as the Heat took the last five wickets for just 16 runs.
The win was the Heat’s second of the season, moving them into third place with four points, while the Strikers are seventh with two points.
