The meeting was postponed until March 19 as both sides seek more evidence in the case, including phone records and Title IX documents.

A motion hearing is also scheduled for February.

His lawyers added that the testimony of witnesses in the case was questionable, before telling media outside the courthouse that they would seek to have the charges against Moore dismissed.

Defense lawyer: “The truth will eventually come out”

Shortly after the hearing, Moore left Ann Arbor District Court with defense attorney Ellen Michaels, who said Moore was “innocent of the charges.”

“Today we filed a motion on behalf of Mr. Moore to quash the warrant and dismiss the complaint,” Michaels said.

Defense attorneys also said the warrant was issued “based on false and misleading statements presented as fact” and requested a Franks hearing.

Backstory

Moore, 39, was fired by athletic director Warde Manuel in December after the school said it discovered he had an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.” He was arrested later that day after he allegedly broke into the employee’s apartment and threatened to kill himself in front of her.

Moore, who is married, allegedly had a years-long affair with a staff member, according to prosecutors during his arraignment. When the man broke off the relationship on Dec. 8, Moore allegedly texted and called her multiple times, leading her to report what happened to the school.

After Moore learned she was fired, she allegedly went to her Pittsfield Township apartment, broke in, grabbed several butter knives and kitchen scissors, and then threatened to harm herself.

“I’m going to kill myself. I’m going to make you watch. You have my blood on your hands,” he allegedly told his ex-girlfriend, according to prosecutor Kati Rezmierski.

When she told him to call the police, he left.

Moore was arraigned days later and charged with third-degree burglary, stalking and burglary. He was released from the Washtenaw County Jail on $25,000 bond.

The university allegedly investigated the relationship as early as last summer, according to author and historian John U. Bacon.

He said the school investigated and questioned Moore and the staff member, but both denied the relationship. That changed last week when she went to the school and gave them evidence of the relationship.
