Salt Lake City(ABC4) – The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) has issued a shelter-in-place order in Salt Lake City due to a police incident.

The order applies to the area within 1.5 miles of 1300 East Parkway Ave., 2445 South, Salt Lake City.

Police issued the following requirements of the order:

  • Do not attempt to leave the area until the alarm is given.

  • Secure all doors and windows.

  • Stay away from exterior openings.

According to UHP, they received a call about a reckless driver and shortly thereafter, police began pursuing the driver when he refused to stop. The vehicle came to a stop and the driver then fled on foot near 1300 East Park Avenue.

The district is sheltering in place, which also applies to local schools.

“They are instructing parents on how to pick up their children, so this is not a complete lockdown,” UHP said in a statement. “The investigation is ongoing. It is unknown if the suspect was armed.”

This is a development story. ABC4 will update this article as more information becomes available.
