The Seattle Seahawks will face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60 after a thrilling victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
The NFC Championship Game was a shootout in Seattle. Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold and Rams quarterback Matt Stafford both threw three touchdown passes, and the home team won 31-27.

Meanwhile, the defense dominated in the AFC Championship Game, as the Patriots defeated the Denver Broncos 10-7 in a snowstorm.
Quarterback Drake Maye, Stafford’s main contender for the Most Valuable Player award this season, scored the game’s only touchdown to help the team reach its record 12th Super Bowl appearance and first since Tom Brady led the team to its sixth NFL championship in 2019.
This year’s NFL title game will be a repeat of 2015, when the Patriots defeated the Seahawks 28-24 to prevent them from winning back-to-back Super Bowls.
This is Seattle’s fourth NFL appearance; their only championship was in 2014.

Seahawks win in Rams trilogy

As divisional rivals in the NFC West, Seattle and Los Angeles have met twice this season. Not only have they won one game each, but the total score difference is only one point and one yard.
Another hard-fought game in the trilogy was expected to be a close contest, and it turned out to be just that, with the Rams making some costly mistakes against the NFC’s top seed, which is tied for the best record this season (with New England and Denver) at 14-3.
After Seattle’s Kenneth Walker opened the scoring with a touchdown, Kellen Williams’ response gave the Rams a 13-10 lead, but due to poor game management, the Seahawks led 17-13 at halftime on a touchdown from Jackson Smith-Ngiba, the league leader in receiving yards.

Los Angeles’ sullen punt gave Seattle a 24-13 lead, and Jake Popper’s score sparked a furious third-quarter exchange between the two teams that led to four straight touchdowns.
Los Angeles’ Davante Adams and Puka Nacua scored on either side of former teammate Cooper Kupp, the Super Bowl MVP when the Rams win the NFL title in 2022.
That meant Seattle, which had allowed the fewest points this season, led 31-27 entering the final quarter, and Los Angeles’ best chance to regain the lead came on a drive that lasted more than seven minutes.
Colby Parkinson dropped a Stafford pass just as the tight end seemed free to run into the end zone, and despite being just six yards from Seattle’s end zone at the time, the Seahawks defense held firm and the Rams denied three chances to put the ball in play.

Los Angeles got the ball back with 25 seconds left, but time ran out and Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald and his UK defensive coordinator Aden Durde celebrated making it to the Super Bowl in their second year with the Seahawks.
Vrabel’s immediate impact on resurgent Patriots

New England may have won six Super Bowls, tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the NFL record, but they had to rebuild after Brady joined Tampa Bay in 2020 and legendary coach Bill Belichick departed after a 4-13 season in 2023.
Last January, less than two hours after another 4-13 season, owner Robert Kraft made the bold decision to fire Jarrod Mayo and then bring in Mike Vrabel to bring in his own coaching staff.

The decision paid off immediately. Expectations weren’t high when the Patriots entered the season, but they improved their record to 14-3 and tied for the largest comeback in NFL history with 10 wins.
The Denver Nuggets also went 14-3 and clinched the NFC’s top seed, but had to give backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham his first start in two years after Bonix suffered a broken ankle in last week’s divisional round win over Buffalo.
Although he threw a touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton in the first quarter, two Stidham turnovers proved decisive and Meyer once again showed maturity beyond his years.
Denver’s defense leads the league in sacks this season, and although they sacked Meyer five times, his legs played some key roles.

The 23-year-old crawled out of the pocket to score some key first downs and score the Patriots’ only touchdown after Stidham fumbled the ball in front of the Broncos’ end zone.
Meyer then kept New England’s drive going for more than nine minutes in the third quarter, capped by kicker Andy Borregales’ goal that proved to be the game’s decisive goal.
Just half a quarter later, the entire field was covered in snow, Denver’s Wil Lutz missed a 45-yard field goal attempt, and Stidham’s desperation long shot was intercepted by Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez with just over two minutes left.
This gives New England a chance to reach the Super Bowl for the 12th time and become the first team to do so after losing 13 games last season.
