Russell Westbrook berates Kings media after team’s third-straight loss: ‘You guys have a lot of opinions’

Russell Westbrook held a press conference on Thursday after the Sacramento Kings lost 133-123 to the New Orleans Pelicans. But it turns out that all it takes is a simple “How’d you do, Lars” to derail everything.

Westbrook was clearly in no mood to answer such questions and decided to spend about six and a half minutes berating and belittling the media after the loss.

This made the press conference awkward and uncomfortable.

Westbrook criticized several reporters during the press conference, noting that some of them did not participate in the team’s film studies and did not attend practices – which are typically closed to the media. He also sought input from several reporters, but when asked, Westbrook said he didn’t want to get bogged down in specifics.

While the first few minutes of the press conference seemed contentious, Westbrook eventually started answering questions in earnest. Still, he had a slight advantage, telling a reporter toward the end of his press conference: “Don’t say anything you don’t know. This is especially true for you.”

It’s not all hate coming from Westbrook, who at one point said he respects the media and the job they do.

But to be fair, the Kings’ record has taken a toll on the 37-year-old. The Kings are 14-50, the worst record in the NBA. All failures will frustrate the player.

However, the failure didn’t stop Westbrook from posting solid numbers. In 59 games, the 18-year veteran averaged 15.3 points and a team-leading 6.4 assists.

After Thursday’s press conference, Westbrook also led the team in naming individual media personnel.
