Podcaster Joe Rogan expressed surprise Tuesday that Democrats still claim to believe there are parallels between voter ID and the dark days of Jim Crow.
Rogan talks to reporter Michael Shellenberger about the national debate over voter ID legislation, arguing it seems like common sense.
He recalled a famous incident in 2021 when Vice President Kamala Harris expressed concerns about voter ID laws, saying rural populations might not have access to photocopiers or Kinko’s to scan IDs.
Rogan said the moral panic over voter ID is especially absurd after years of the pandemic, when people were expected to carry cards proving their vaccination status.

“When I talk to my progressive friends and family and friends about this, their response is very much like, ‘No, we can’t put barriers in the way you vote because that’s what they did during segregation,’ and I mean, that’s where it comes from,” Schellenberg said.

“ID is not a barrier,” Rogan replied. “It’s just an insurance policy that you’re a citizen when you vote.”
Shellenberger further added that progressives he’s spoken to claim there was little fraud, noting, “I’m just telling you what they said. I’m not saying I agree with it.”
Rogen asked who believed in these ideas, and Schellenberg said progressives.
“Do you believe it? That’s a horse—” Logan said.
“I think they believe that,” Schellenberg replied. “That’s all I’ll say.”

Podcaster Joe Rogan thinks the opposition to requiring ID to vote is ridiculous, especially after vaccination verification cards are required for basic daily activities.
“Really? I think they’re just saying that because everyone says that. I think it’s a groupthink,” Rogan said.
“The majority of citizens in this country have some form of ID or have access to some form of ID. If you vote for the president of the United States, it’s perfectly reasonable to ask people to prove who you are. It seems reasonable.”

Podcaster Joe Rogan believes many people may be claiming voter ID is racist simply out of loyalty to far-left groupthink, suggesting these people would say it’s common sense if challenged privately.
