Robinson on King’s red card appeal, relegation scrap & bare minimum

St Mirren head coach Stephen Robinson spoke to the media as the team prepares for Saturday’s game against Livingston.

Here are the key points:

  • After Richard King’s red card was overturned in the 5-0 defeat to Motherwell, Robinson said “we were not going to win the game anyway” but felt “common sense prevailed”.

  • He admitted the formation change for that game was “too much” for his side “when confidence was low”.

  • “I’m my own biggest critic and I’m the first to point it out when things aren’t going well,” Robinson said, but stressed that “it’s important for the fans to support the players.”

  • St Mirren are just two points above the relegation play-off spots and Robinson said his side are “not sleepwalking into trouble, we know exactly where we are” but insisted they can “beat any team in the league”.

  • He added: “I don’t think anyone in the bottom half can survive relegation. Our job is to get points in the table and drag others into this battle.”

  • Robinson knows “it’s hard to play when you’re under pressure,” but he urged his players to “rise above the pressure.”

  • He is ready for “a really difficult game on a difficult surface” in Levy, adding: “I don’t care which way we go, we have to find a way to win.”

  • “You have to do the bare minimum to win football games and we have to start doing that again,” Robinson said.

  • Robinson believes “a lot of things are going against us” but thinks “it could still be a really good season” with the League Cup already in the bag and another semi-final at Hampden on the cards.

  • Team News: Declan John is ill so it will be a last minute decision, Jonah Ayunga will start training next week but Connor McMenamin has not trained since Monday with a groin injury and will be assessed on Saturday.
