The Pittsburgh Steelers still have a long way to go before the 2026 NFL season begins, but we know they will have a game on their schedule against the Carolina Panthers, and it’s one that the Steelers’ recently signed free agent running back, Rico Dowdle, is particularly looking forward to.
Dowdle, who spent the 2025 season in Carolina before becoming a free agent and signing a contract with the Steelers last week, is having the best season of his career, rushing for 1,076 yards and six touchdowns and recording 297 receiving yards and one touchdown. While business is business, Dowdell also had some revenge thoughts after the Panthers let him go this offseason.

“Yeah, it’s definitely ringed in,” Dowdell said of the game. “They must have been penned in.”
If Dowdle does have a strong performance against the Panthers, it won’t be the first time he’s made a big appearance against his former team. Dowdle, who spent his first five seasons in the league with the Dallas Cowboys, threw for 239 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers’ 30-27 win last season between Carolina and Dallas.
With that game not far off in Panthers fans’ memory, they know Dowdle can exact revenge at this level — and they may already be dreading next year’s game against Pittsburgh.
