Liverpool will have to deal with some uncertainty at left-back over the coming months.
Andy Robertson is the team’s long-standing left-back, signing from Hull City in 2017 for £8 million. But the Scotland captain has been below his best in the 2024/25 Premier League Championship season.

There have been some uncharacteristic errors in the 31-year-old’s game, with left-back considered a priority position in last summer’s transfer window.
Milos Kerkez was acquired from Bournemouth for £40m, with Robbo relegated to an unfamiliar substitute role. With his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, Robertson is expected to leave at the end of the season, leaving a hole in the squad.
The left winger was linked with a move to Tottenham in January but ultimately stayed put as Liverpool were unable to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma.
But the Greek also faces a threat – he will return to Anfield at the end of the season with just one year left on his contract.

Robertson will leave at the end of his contract – perhaps to Celtic, while Tsimikas looks certain to be sold – This opens the door for a Liverpool left-back move.

“If Andy Robertson doesn’t sign a new contract and Kostas Tsimikas opts out, then Liverpool will need a left-back,” writes Ian Doyle in the Liverpool Echo.
This week, one name suddenly came into focus. Daniel Svensson, 24, has been a bright spot since joining Borussia Dortmund on loan from Nordzealand in the winter of 2024.
The Sweden international signed a permanent contract last summer that runs until 2029.
A report earlier this week suggested that Dortmund were prepared to sanction a transfer worth up to £35million for Svensson, with the Premier League described as his dream destination.
