Report: Todd Monken open to keeping Jim Schwartz as DC in 2026

The Browns are hiring Todd Monken to be their next head coach.

Jim Schwartz, the team’s defensive coordinator for the past three seasons, is reportedly a finalist for the position. Team owner Jimmy Haslam has made it clear that he wants Schwartz to be a part of the team’s future, given how well the team’s defense has performed under Schwartz.

But will Schwartz still be with the team in 2026?

Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports that while Monken has the right to hire its own staff, He has been open to retaining Schwartz as his defensive coordinator. Cabot noted that since Schwartz is still under contract with the Browns through 2026, it will be up to the two to decide whether Schwartz will join the team or go elsewhere in 2026.

Under Schwartz, Cleveland ranks first in yards allowed in 2023 and fourth in yards allowed in 2025.
