Report: DK Metcalf loses millions in guarantees following suspension

While Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf was suspended two games after an altercation with a fan on Sunday, his appeal has yet to be heard and it may have hurt him more than initially thought.

According to a report from CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, Metcalf’s suspension qualifies as “harmful conduct” against the league, voiding “at least $45 million in future guaranteed money” from the four-year, $132 million contract the receiver signed in the spring.

Metcalf’s contract originally had $60 million guaranteed. Jones noted that even a one-game suspension would void Metcalf’s $25 million in guaranteed money in 2026 and even $20 million in guaranteed injury protection in 2027.

Of course, it’s worth noting that this doesn’t mean Metcalf will lose any money — other than the game check that comes with the suspension — just that his guarantee is voided. Now, if the Steelers decide to waive the receiver in the future, it will be easier for them to get out of his contract.

Still, the current squad will be hurt if the suspension is upheld. Pittsburgh is still fighting to secure a playoff spot, and losing the No. 1 receiver on the roster isn’t going to make it any easier. However, the Steelers need just one win — or a Ravens loss — over the next two weeks to clinch the AFC North title.

If Metcalf’s season is over, he will have 59 receptions, 850 yards and six touchdowns.
