Report: Chelsea readying €50m offer as they look to fill problem position this month

Chelsea are reportedly expected to make an initial offer of around €50 million for Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet.

The Blues were expected to keep things quiet this month, but they have changed their plans and are now looking to bring in a centre-back.

Chelsea are said to have shortlisted three targets but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to complete any deals.

Chelsea expected to make €50m offer to Jeremy Jacquet

Como’s Jakob Ramon and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi are both said to be on the list, but Chelsea have identified Jacquet as their main target.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a fine season with Rennes and the Ligue 1 side are reluctant to lose him mid-season as they look to qualify for the Champions League.

Chelsea have made Jacquet their main January target.

Rennes are insisting on breaking the club’s sales record and are seeking around €70m, a price Chelsea are reportedly not prepared to pay.

The Blues are reportedly exploring options to sign Jacquet but allow him to spend the remainder of the season at Rennes.

Chelsea have been in talks but have yet to make an offer, however, RMC Sport reports that the Blues are expected to make an initial offer of €50 million.

Jacquet has agreed personal terms with Chelsea and approved the move, but there is still a lack of agreement between the clubs.

Axel Disasi returns to first-team training

While the Blues are still working on completing a deal for Jacquet, one defender expected to leave this month is Axel Disasi.

Disasi is said to have attracted interest from Roma, Lyon and clubs in Saudi Arabia, but no offers have been received yet.

However, the 27-year-old returned to first-team training on Tuesday and it looks like he may get another chance under Liam Rogniel, although whether he will play for the club again is still unknown.
