The Cincinnati Reds may not be the favorite team to sign free agent Kyle Schwarber.

But the Reds certainly have a point of view. Schwarber grew up in Middletown, Ohio, less than an hour’s drive from Cincinnati.
The free agent from the Philadelphia Phillies could be headed back to the City of Brotherly Love.
He had many other suitors. That’s how 187 home runs over the past four seasons, including 56 in 2025, work.
But the Reds do have a chance.
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand revealed his full thoughts on the matter in a new article on Thursday:
“I believe the Reds do have a chance to sign Schwarber, although I certainly wouldn’t rank them as a favorite. Cincinnati is looking for a big stick in the middle of the lineup, and if Schwarber is interested in playing close to home (he’s from near Middletown, Ohio), the Reds are the only team that can offer him that opportunity. It will likely come down to money like most free agents, but GABP is a great hitter’s park, and for a slugger like Schwarber, Cincy is unlikely to be the highest bidder, but if the offer is competitive, I’d put their chances at around 15% based on conversations I’ve had. [little bit] Higher than I said a month ago. “

Are you saying there is still a chance?
Admittedly, 15% is not surprising. But it’s better than zero.
The Reds need some pop in their lineup and it looks like they’ll at least make a real effort to sign Schwarber to fill that need.
