Results for the new National Baseball Hall of Fame ballot were announced Tuesday night, with Pedroia’s vote total nearly doubling what it was a year ago.

Pedroia received 11.9% of the vote his first year on the ballot.

A year later, Pedroia received 20.7% of the vote (75% required for the election).

It seems like a long way off, but Pedroia still has eight years left. One of this year’s electors, Andruw Jones, initially opened with 7.3 percent support on the first-year ballot, so it can be done.

Pedroia is a classic example of peak performance and longevity.

The 5-foot-9 second baseman plays much bigger than he is. He was a Rookie of the Year and MVP winner.

Pedroia was a four-time All-Star, won four Gold Gloves and had two World Series rings.

He has a career batting average of .299 with 1,805 hits, 140 home runs and 138 steals.

Pedroia played only nine games following his age-33 season due to a serious knee injury sustained on defense.

Should this be directed at him? That’s what voters have to decide.

More things seem to be working in his favor, and that may continue as time goes on.

Maybe one day Pedroia will be in the Hall of Fame.
