Red Dead Redemption was ported to PS4 and Nintendo Switch last year with minimal upgrades compared to the original version. However, the action-adventure western skipped the long-awaited PC release. Now, nearly 15 years after its original release, Rockstar Games’ classic game appears to be ready to make its way to PC. References to the PC release of Red Dead Redemption were discovered on PlayStation Network.

Red Dead Redemption PC trailer

Gaming industry source Wario64 discovered references to the PC version of Red Dead Redemption on the PlayStation Store. The Game and Legal Information section of the Game Store listing mentions that Red Dead Redemption is “now coming to PC for the first time.”

The tipster posted the discovery on X, along with a screenshot and link to a PlayStation Store listing teasing a PC version of the game. “Experience the epic Western adventure that defined a generation—now for the first time on PC,” the listing reads.

The store page further details Red Dead Redemption 2’s expected PC features, mentioning that the game will come with platform-specific enhancements such as support for higher resolutions and frame rates, multiple monitors, and more.

“Red Dead Redemption features the full single-player experience of both games, including the bonus content of the Game of the Year Edition, with all the upgrades from the 2023 console versions as well as PC-specific enhancements, including support for higher resolutions and frame rates, multiple monitors and other accessories, and spatial surround sound,” reads the game information section.

While a PC version is mentioned several times, the PlayStation Store listing mentions a release date of August 17, 2023, the same release date as the PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions of the game. The platform in the list also mentions PS4. This could mean that the PC reference in the game information section might just be a bug. However, specific information about PC features, including a 2023 console version upgrade, suggests a PC launch is possible.

Rockstar Games has yet to confirm a PC release for Red Dead Redemption.

Red Dead Redemption PS4, Nintendo Switch port

Red Dead Redemption was originally released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010 and was ported to PS4 and Nintendo Switch last year. The 2023 version of the game doesn’t feature any major upgrades, with the game locked at 30 fps on Nintendo Switch and PS4 at launch. The port of Double Eleven Studio supports 1080p resolution on Switch and PS4, and up to 4K resolution on PS4 Pro and PS5 (playable via backwards compatibility). The new version also doesn’t have multiplayer functionality.

However, the game received a patch last October that added support for 60fps on PS5. Red Dead Redemption is currently available to play on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch consoles.

The game tells the story of former outlaw John Marston, who is blackmailed and recruited by the government to hunt down former members of the Van der Linde gang. “Red Dead Redemption” is regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time, and a prequel “Red Dead Redemption 2” was launched in 2018.
