RB Leipzig vs. Augsburg preview: Visitors eyeing fourth successive win

red bull leipzig

With 10 games remaining, Leipzig currently sit fifth, two points behind the top four in the race for Champions League qualification. Die Rotenbrunn will be looking for stability in the final stages of the season, having recorded two wins, three draws and two losses in their last seven league games.

The second of these two victories came last Sunday away to Hamburg. Romulo Cardoso struck his seventh league goal of the season to offset Fabio Vieira’s opener at the Volkspark before the striker set up Jan Diomande to put Leipzig ahead in the 50th minute. Romulo spurned the chance to add to Leipzig’s tally from the penalty spot, but luckily for the 24-year-old, his save was not costly as Rotenbrunn went on to secure a third win in four away league games.

They will now return to the Red Bull Arena having gone four games without a win since beating Freiburg 2-0 on January 14. While their recent home record does not inspire confidence, Leipzig can draw inspiration from the fact that they have won eight of their nine Bundesliga home games against Augsburg (one draw).

Team News

Leipzig were unable to play Peter Gulacchi, Viggo Goebel, Kosta Nedelkovic, Asan Vedraogo and Javier Schlager due to injuries.

Augsburg

Augsburg eased relegation fears with five wins in six games, including three consecutive wins since a 2-0 away defeat at Mainz on February 7. Fuglstadt started their impressive run with a narrow 1-0 win over Heidenheim before coming back twice to beat Wolfsburg 3-2 away.

Augsburg then returned home, winning 2-0 against Cologne last weekend. Winter addition Rodrigo Ribeiro scored his second goal since his loan spell with Sporting Lisbon before Alexis Claude-Morris added all three points in stoppage time.
