Ravens OC Todd Monken gets second HC interview with Browns

The Browns will host Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken for his second in-person interview for their head coaching vacancy.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Monken will visit Cleveland on Tuesday. He served as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2019 but did not continue as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2020 when Kevin Stefanski took over as head coach.

Also interviewing for the second time with the Browns were current defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, Jaguars OC Grant Udinski, Chargers DC Jesse Minter and Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaas.

McDaniel, Minter and Shelhaas are also candidates for the Ravens head coaching job. All three completed first-round interviews, and the first two appear likely to be among Baltimore’s finalists.

The Browns’ vacancy is considered one of the most unpopular in the league, so they’re trying to move quickly to secure a top candidate. A coach who’s unsure of his ability to land a better (or any) head coaching job elsewhere might be more inclined to accept an early offer from Cleveland. Monken falls into that category, as the Browns are the only team interviewing him for the top job this recruiting cycle. If he doesn’t get the job, he’ll likely follow John Harbaugh to New York and take over as head coach of the Giants.
