The Los Angeles Rams announced a contract extension with safety Quentin Lake on Thursday. That’s when they opened his 21-day training window.
Lake, a 2022 sixth-round pick, is in the final year of his rookie contract and will become a free agent in March. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, his contract extension is worth up to $42 million, of which $25.7 million is guaranteed.

Lake, a captain who had an impressive 2024 campaign and early success in the 2025 season, has been on injured reserve starting in Week 12.
He dislocated his left elbow in the Week 11 win over the Seattle Seahawks. The injury required surgery, but Lake has been working hard to get back on the field. While he’s not expected to play in Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Arizona Cardinals, the Rams expect him to be available for Game 2 of the postseason.
It sounds like Lake feels the same way.
“I’m extremely grateful to be a part of such a great organization,” Lake said Thursday while addressing fans in a Rams social media video. “Can’t wait to see you all in the playoffs and for many years to come.”

Lake played in high school at Mater Dei near Santa Ana, California. The UCLA product will be staying in Los Angeles for a while.
While he began his career with the Rams on special teams, he has developed into an outstanding safety. Last season, he had 111 tackles, second-most on the team.
This time, he made more games, including game-changing ones. In Week 11, he not only had 61 tackles (37 solo), but also had one sack, one forced fumble, one interception and 10 passes defensed.

The Rams deployed Lake at all safety positions, with the defensive landscape changing frequently under coordinator Chris Shula.
According to Pro Football Focus, Lake has played 634 defensive snaps this season, 424 of which occurred in the end zone, 89 in the end zone and 84 at safety. Additionally, he appeared on the defensive line 32 times and at outside corner five times.
He’s a defensive piece and the Rams have missed him in his absence. Through the first 10 games of the season, Los Angeles allowed just 17.2 points per game with Lake on the court. But in the next six games, the 11-5 Rams conceded an average of 25.6 points per game and had a record of only 3 wins and 3 losses.

Earlier this season, Los Angeles re-signed middle linebacker Nate Landman, who made an immediate impact after signing a veteran-minimum contract worth $1.1MM. Millions in free agency.
Randleman, another captain, has been a stabilizing force in Shula’s second level defense.
The Rams rewarded his efforts and now they’re taking care of Lake, too.
