The Los Angeles Rams made a blockbuster trade just days before free agency.

The NFC runner-up will acquire cornerback Trent McDuffie in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City will receive the Rams’ 29th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, as well as additional compensation that has yet to be announced.

News of the deal was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on March 4.

McDuffie, 25, is entering his fifth NFL season and the final year of his rookie contract. Since the Chiefs selected McDuffie in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, he has been named a first-team All-Pro in 2023 and a second-team All-Pro in 2024.

In 2025, the Washington product had 63 tackles, seven passes defended and one interception. Toward the end of the year, McDuffie was placed on season-ending injured reserve after Week 14 with a knee injury.

In 2025, the Rams ranked 19th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game at 216.7. With safety Kamren Curl and cornerback Cobie Durant set to hit free agency next week, Los Angeles got a head start on improving the secondary by trading McDuffie.
