SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Showers and storms continue overnight before freezing temperatures return.
Saturday is another warm and breezy day, followed by showers and storms. Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport set a new daily record of 86°, breaking the old record of 84° set in 2018.
Even before showers and storms arrive, wind speeds can exceed 30 mph at times. A wave of weakening showers and a few storms move into the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry areas during the afternoon. They lost their offensive power but still brought gusts of 35-40 mph to some areas.
The area will have another few rounds of showers and maybe a rumble or two of thunder Saturday night into Sunday morning, all ahead of the arrival of the cold front. The last round of light showers will move out of the area shortly after sunrise.
Skies are clearing and the rest of Sunday will be cooler and windy at times. Winds from the northwest can sometimes exceed 30 mph. Combined with dry air indoors, the fire risk is high, so don’t burn outdoors on Sunday or Monday.
The cold feeling will return Sunday night into Monday morning. Breezes will continue and temperatures will be around freezing, with temperatures in the teens to low 20s. Be sure to dress warmly on Monday as highs will only reach the 40s.
Winds will weaken Monday night into Tuesday morning, resulting in cooler temperatures, with lows in the 20s. This could bring severe ice to much of the area along and west of Interstate 95, so protect the 4Ps, including watching for any early blooming plants.
Temperatures will gradually ease throughout the week, with a slight freeze possible Wednesday morning before temperatures rise into the 60s and 70s. A storm system moves through the area Thursday into Friday, bringing showers with it.
