The Las Vegas Raiders are having a miserable, no-turnaround, really bad 2025 season.

On New Year’s Day, things got worse.
Their rookie quarterback Cam Miller was taken off the practice squad by the Miami Dolphins.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, a practice squad player can be signed to another team’s active roster, which is what the Dolphins did with Miller.
Miller was a sixth-round draft pick out of North Dakota State in April. Now, the quarterback hasn’t even gotten through his first NFL season with the Raiders.

Vegas handled this situation poorly. There’s no reason to let the rookie quarterback you just drafted get away with this.

Geno Smith is not the quarterback of the future. Aidan O’Connell is not the quarterback of the future. Is it Miller? Probably not.
But he’s the only one who hasn’t proven he’s not good enough. The Raiders invested a draft pick in him.
Maybe you’d think this move surprised the Raiders.
But it’s still not okay for Vegas to let that happen.
Miami is looking to move on from Tua Tagawailoa, has started seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers over the past few weeks, and has now brought Miller into their building to keep an eye on him.
The Raiders, meanwhile, let Smith function in a completely failed season. Two different methods of course.

Ultimately, this only hurts the Raiders.
